About Jennifer Williams, PhD, DACM, L.Ac
Dr. Jennifer M. Williams holds a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Research, with licensure as an acupuncturist in TN, NC, and VA. Specializing in complex cases, chronic pain, and neurological disorders, Dr. Williams serves as Adjunct Faculty for an acupuncture doctorate program and Vice President of the Professional Committee of Chinese Medicine Anthropology within the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. A dedicated beekeeper and herbal farmer, Dr. Williams integrates diverse expertise to promote holistic health and healing.
Dr. Williams’ professional presentations blend ancient wisdom with modern science to help practitioners and patients better understand pathomechanisms with focused treatment strategies for significant and sustained outcomes. Acupuncture as a Medicine
Acupuncture medicine defines the medical scope of primary licensed acupuncturists (L.Acs) that includes related modalities such as tui na massage, moxibustion, gua sha, cupping, and often herbal medicine, as taught in accredited Chinese medical Master of Science and Doctorate degree programs.
Accredited acupuncture degree programs generally incorporate a foundation that includes biomedicine and theoretical frameworks designed to inform assessment, diagnosis, and application of acupuncture as a dynamic medical paradigm.
Acupuncture is a system of many overlapping theories and frameworks. The dynamic contribution of Chinese medical theories continues to inform and fill gaps in mechanisms of pain, function, and disease from cellular level to systemic influences. The Chinese medical framework of diagnosis facilitates the mechanistic understanding of modern and emerging diseases that inform the criteria for therapy aimed at resolution or maximum improvement.
Primary acupuncturists are licensed acupuncturists who pass the National Certification Commision for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) board certification exams after about 3,000 hours of education and clinical supervision. Primary acupuncturists weave theoretical, diagnostic, and acupuncture frameworks into a complete practice.
Secondary acupuncture providers utilize basic frameworks such as dry needling (trigger therapy), medical acupuncture, or ear acupuncture protocols.
